:Home-Based Treatments and Hospitalization-at-Home Models
Challenges and Opportunities
The Health Committee of the Chamber has established a dedicated working group to address the issue of inequality in healthcare. This initiative aims to tackle the pressing challenges facing the healthcare system and develop strategies to ensure equitable access to quality healthcare services for all the Israeli healthcare system which faces significant challenges, including resource shortages, a limited number of hospital beds, and low ratios of physicians and nurses per capita compared to other countries.
Simultaneously, the demand for healthcare services is rising due to demographic growth and increasing rates of illness. These factors necessitate a thorough reevaluation of the healthcare service delivery model and a more efficient allocation of responsibilities between hospitals and community care.
One of the most prominent shifts in this direction is the growing emphasis on home-based treatments and hospitalization-at-home models, transitioning care from hospitals to the community setting.
Despite the challenges, Israel is considered relatively advanced in the field of home hospitalization, ranking higher than the United States in several OECD indicators.
This progress positions Israel as an attractive partner for collaborations with U.S. healthcare systems, which are in search of solutions, expertise, and technologies that Israel can offer.
At the Reboot Conference in early November, led by the Chamber Healthcare Equity Committee, it has been decided to establish a multidisciplinary forum comprising key stakeholders in Israel's healthcare system, including representatives from the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Finance, HMO's, hospitals, and more.
This forum, under the leadership of the Chamber Healthcare Equity Committee, will focus on the significant issues related to home care and home hospitalization. It aims to deliver a
comprehensive set of recommendations addressing four key dimensions: regulatory, economic, operational, and technological.
